Matt Fraction continues his craptastic dialogue
Forget about all the ‘nice’ posts I’ve been writing on this blog. I just finished reading Uncanny X-Men #514 and to much dismay (but not much of a surprise), Matt Fraction continues to slaughter Uncanny X-Men and Emma Frost’s potentially awesome dialogue.
Fraction indeed gives Emma original but ghastly dialogue, but he also snags lines from the wonderful Morrison’s New X-Men run.
Remember when Emma Frost was awesome and spoke oh-so-elegantly?
Not only does Matt Fraction write Hellion, Emma’s ex-student from a few years back, as using the same line in Uncanny X-Men #513 as shown here:
But he also gives the same line to Emma Frost in the current issue of Uncanny X-Men #514:
No, no, I’m really not being too harsh. As a professional writer and someone who is writing Emma Frost, Matt Fraction should know better.
Bonus: Emma Frost is suddenly a humanitarian who cares about a random crowd of homo sapiens!
Yeah, you cry those emo tears, you White Queen.
Anyways, by all means, avoid spending $3.99 for repeat dialogue and horrible characterization.

Wow, don’t pull your punches.
I can understand Hellion using Emma’s line. She did teach him and probably left quite an impression.
I can also understand Emma using a similar line because it’s a similar situation.
As for the tear, well that depends what the hell is in the people’s minds. Or rather what is left of them.
I think you’re being a bit harsh because this isn’t your Emma. She has lost a bit of her Ice Queen-ishness though. I will give you that.
Aimee, what you said was absolutely dead on.
And Adrian, I’d like to counter with it’s not it isn’t her Emma, it isn’t Emma. Character evolution is all very well and grand, but this is a 180 from Morrison’s New X-Men. Astonishing and Kyle and Yost’s New X-Men and X-Men all have had hands in developing her since then, but they never defanged her like Fraction has. They gave her responsibility, but she was still bitchy, morally questionable, and she did NOT show her true compassion openly. But apparently complex characters are too much to handle for Fraction.
Of course, Emma’s characterization has changed a bit since Morrison’s New X-Men. I always theorize that she greatly matured from Morrison’s to Whedon’s run. The thing about Emma is that she can change sides, but she doesn’t change who she is.
No, seriously, are you surprised? Matt Fraction can’t write, period. He’s pretty much slaughtering the crap out of IIM at the moment, and I wish they’d just send him and David Way down the drain and fire them both already.
FML, that’s Daniel, not David.
