No, seriously, are you surprised? Matt Fraction can't write, period. He's pretty much slaughtering the crap out of IIM at the moment, and I wish they'd just send him and David Way down the drain and fire them both already.

Of course, Emma's characterization has changed a bit since Morrison's New X-Men. I always theorize that she greatly matured from Morrison's to Whedon's run. The thing about Emma is that she can change sides, but she doesn't change who she is.

Aimee, what you said was absolutely dead on.

And Adrian, I'd like to counter with it's not it isn't her Emma, it isn't Emma. Character evolution is all very well and grand, but this is a 180 from Morrison's New X-Men. Astonishing and Kyle and Yost's New X-Men and X-Men all have had hands in developing her since then, but they never defanged her like Fraction has. They gave her responsibility, but she was still bitchy, morally questionable, and she did NOT show her true compassion openly. But apparently complex characters are too much to handle for Fraction.

Wow, don't pull your punches.

I can understand Hellion using Emma's line. She did teach him and probably left quite an impression.

I can also understand Emma using a similar line because it's a similar situation.

As for the tear, well that depends what the hell is in the people's minds. Or rather what is left of them.

I think you're being a bit harsh because this isn't your Emma. She has lost a bit of her Ice Queen-ishness though. I will give you that.
